Welcome to another edition of ‘Ask Charla.′ You know, here at Astrology Answers I get a lot of questions from all corners of the globe; things to do with love and romance, chakras, tarot, astrology, numerology; if it′s metaphysical, then someone at some time has asked it!
Thanks for asking about the third-eye chakra! Of all the chakras – energy centers running up and down your spine – the third eye (or brow) chakra is the one most often misunderstood, and most often out of balance. This is because it is the energy center where logic and reason meet intuition and psychic energy.
It’s easy to mistake fantasy for fact when this chakra is out of whack! Let’s take a closer look!
The Sanskrit word for the third-eye chakra is Ajna. It’s located above the bridge of your nose between your eyebrows—which is why it’s also called the brow chakra. It’s color is deep indigo. This is the energy center that rules all kinds of sight, whether it’s your actual eyesight, or clairvoyancy, or psychic guidance and flashes.
Not surprisingly, the element for the third-eye chakra is light. You can’t very well see in the darkness, can you?! Like the stars that shine at night, this area resonates with the celestial layer of your subtle body. It vibrates to the music note of A.
Activating the Third-Eye Chakra
You asked how you could validate when the third-eye chakra was activated. The answer is complicated. Your chakra is always going to be activated to a greater or lesser extent, or you wouldn’t be alive! You have to have the qi—the life force—flowing through you. However, it is imperative to work towards keeping this energy balanced.
Too much and you overdo things; too little and life loses some of its passion.
Some things you can do to work with this chakra include wearing indigo clothing and jewelry, meditating on the color indigo, and burning indigo candles. Listen to music in the key of A, or chant on that note in your meditations. You might even want to keep a record of all your intuitions, dreams and hunches, and see which ones play out to be correct.
This helps you to trust your psychic visions.
An Imbalanced Third-Eye Chakra
This chakra is deceptive when imbalanced. You may think you’re following the truth, when in fact, you’re pursuing an illusion. You have a distorted perception of things, but might not even recognize how far-fetched your reasoning is. This may even start to affect your physical eyesight.
Often when the third-eye chakra needs a tuneup, you’ll have trouble sleeping. Dreams become very vivid and disturbing. You may even start to feel that you’re cursed with visions you cannot control. You can’t seem to stop your mind from racing ahead and jumping to conclusions. You may even think you see or hear things that aren’t actually there.
You easily jump to conclusions, especially if they validate your desires. Other signs that this chakra needs some work include going too far the other way, dismissing all your hunches as unreliable and only putting faith in cold hard facts. You plan things out, but rarely have the motivation to make them happen.
Your imagination seems to leave, taking your creativity with it. You cease to dream, or if you do dream, you can’t remember the details. You become skeptical of new ideas, and suspicious of people’s intentions.
A Balanced Third-Eye Chakra
It’s not hard to measure how balanced your third-eye chakra is. You’ll feel confident, and have no problem believing things in order to see them manifest in your life. You’re able to invoke the Law of Attraction and put it to work for you in a healthy and productive way. You’re in touch with your inner self, and any divinity in whom you believe.
When your third-eye chakra is functioning at its optimum level, you’re able to discern fantasy from reality. You understand the difference between your intuition, and what’s just wishful thinking. You’re creative and able to adequately express yourself. You live in confidence and optimism. Your sleep is restful, and you have a good recollection of your dreams.
Other signs that your third-eye chakra is balanced include being fully in the world, but not attached to worldly things. Your mind is calm yet alert. You see life as exciting and rewarding, something to be enjoyed and shared with others, rather than something ugly or filled with dread and fear.
You’re able to balance your head and your heart, and live in the here and now, rather than dwelling in the past, or projecting into the future.
Of course, your third-eye chakra is just one of the seven energy centers. You have to work with all chakras and have them all open and balanced in order to live an authentically empowered life. Start at the root chakra and work up through the energy centers.
By making a practice of doing this every day, you’ll soon find that your chakras are working in harmony together, assisting you to create the life you wish to live.
