When the Devil card appears in your Tarot reading, it can feel like a foreboding experience right off the bat. The Devil card is also often referred to as "The Horned One," and its imagery is stark and feels very dark, almost darker than the Death card. We see an angry angel bound to a pedestal, and below him are the two souls of The Lovers card chained to his pedestal. The message from the Devil card is much simpler than this dark imagery may at first offer. We are clearly being held back in a situation, by a person, an addiction, or even an addiction to a person.

In some cases, depending on the question and/or surrounding cards, this can even refer to actual imprisonment or incarceration, but you never want to jump to that conclusion by this Tarot card alone. Something is being tamed in this card, and it could be you or another figure in your situation. This is the dark side of The Lovers, so know that whatever it is that is going on is likely "taboo" or a deep secret. The secret could be a person or it could be just a wild component of a situation that is physically or spiritually holding you back from the progress you need.
