A spirit is another word for life force. Sometimes called chi, it is the vital principle of any living thing.
Plants, animals, and humans all have spirits. These spirits can be guides, and if you see them as your guides, they can communicate with you. Spirits can also be disembodied, as when a loved one who no longer walks this Earth comes back to bring you messages from other realms. Some people call ghosts and other non-corporeal energies spirits. If it had a life, then it could have a spirit.
