Fixed Grand Cross

Similar: Cardinal sign, Cardinal Grand Cross, Mutable Grand Cross, Grand Cross

A Grand Cross in any group of signs is a planetary alignment that appears in our astrology forecasts and astrology charts. It usually consists of four planets (in four signs of the same quality) at 90-degree angles with each other.

In this specific aspect, two planets are in opposition to each other and they make a square angle to two other opposing planets.

Every sign of the zodiac is either

  1. Fixed: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.

  2. Cardinal: Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn.

  3. Mutable: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.

Therefore, a Fixed Grand Cross happens when all four planets involved are in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.

This brings a very different energy to the Grand Cross than the Cardinal or Mutable quality would. When there is a Grand Cross in Fixed energy, we find ourselves stuck and unable to move forward from things that trouble us. During this aspect, it may be particularly hard to go with the flow, leaving those with it in their birth chart stuck and avoiding change at points in their life.

This is because of three fixed qualities:

  1. Following comforting routines

  2. Sticking to noticeable patterns

  3. Favoring familiarity over risk

All of these traits of a Fixed sign make it easy for us to lean into our worries and tribulations about unexpected change. During a Fixed Grand Cross, we must face our fears and leave our comfort zone behind in order to evolve into our best selves.
