On March 3rd, 2026, we’ll experience a Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse in Virgo! This is the second of 3 Virgo Lunar Eclipses, and we had one last year (March 14th, 2025), and the third and final comes next year (February 20th, 2027).
How is this a Lunar Eclipse? Lunar Eclipses occur when Full Moons are within 18 ½ degrees of the Lunar Nodes, which are the points in the Moon’s orbit where the Moon crosses the ecliptic (now you know the exact definition!).
Full Moons occur when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are opposite each other in the zodiac. Full Moons occur about once every 4 weeks, while Lunar Eclipses occur about once every 6 months.
Full Moons are times of reaping what you sow, culminations, and endings. They are highly emotional, and we see results.
This is amplified under a Lunar Eclipse, and so results and endings are even bigger. Their impact also lasts longer, up to 6 months before and after (while Full Moons only impact for about 2 weeks before and after).
This Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Virgo can focus on Virgo matters, which can include:
- Anything focusing on work and projects (this is likely a big time to get smaller projects done, as well as to potential finish or quit jobs)
- Anything involving daily life (especially cleaning up and clearing out so there’s less little bits of baggage)
- Anything involving routine, structure, and order (time to assess schedules and bring in organization to get more done)
- Anything involving health and maintenance (needing to take care of ourselves, especially with stress management, as well as the health of our homes, business, technology, cars, etc.)
This eclipse is part of an eclipse set in Pisces and Virgo. Eclipses occur in sets of opposing signs in the zodiac, and we have one more Lunar Eclipse for Pisces as we move into Aquarius and Leo (the signs the Solar Eclipses occur in this year).
This eclipse follows the Solar Eclipse in Aquarius on February 17th, and that eclipse was all about big new changes to focus on the shifting paradigm and push us down new paths for our lives. It followed up Saturn and Neptune pushing off into Aries, ushering in this important period for change.
Meanwhile the Virgo Lunar Eclipse is more focused on getting things done so we can clean up and clear out. We’re extra productive and efficient, and we know what has to be done, and this is the time to do it.
We’re starting up a whole new cycle, a new phase, a new chapter for our lives, and with that often comes a deep release. We can’t move forward until we let go of what is holding us back, no matter how comfortable that might be.
On the plus side, this eclipse is sextile, which is a beneficial aspect, happy Jupiter in Cancer, and Jupiter will end its retrograde on March 10 sextile the eclipse. Jupiter starts moving forward again (planets appear to move backward when retrograde), and this can open us up a bit more.
Jupiter retrograde is known to be super karmic, so this can help us to focus on karmic baggage, karmic lessons, and karmic connections. We can take a practical approach with the eclipse in Virgo, and this allows us to see this more clearly.
We can also be more willing to let go thanks to Jupiter, who wants space and doesn’t care for baggage. We can be more independent, and willing and able to deal with things on our own.
Letting go can also lead to more opportunities and open up new possibilities, so there is something to be gained from doing this. Even without that, it should make you feel more in control with less holding you back, so you’re ready for the next leg of big changes to come.
Focus on Releasing with this Eclipse
With this eclipse being the second of 3 Lunar Eclipses in Virgo, what you work on releasing now might be something you actually started last year. It could potentially take another year to be fully realized, but you can get through a big bulk of it with the current eclipse.
For this eclipse, expressive Mercury is retrograde in Pisces, the spiritual sign. Mercury retrograde likes to muck things up, slow things down, and force us to reflect, and that can be even more important for this one.
This is because Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, so it’s also connected to endings, just like the Lunar Eclipse. Pisces is also karmic in nature, so we have some karma to work on and baggage to release.
Then Mercury is also the natural ruling planet for Virgo, the sign the eclipse is in, so we’re feeling the retrograde strongly, emotionally, and at our core. We need to work on letting go, not just for the sake of our futures, but also for our emotional stability and security.
But there is an opportunity to gain insights into yourself, your past, your life, your choices, and your connections with this Mercury retrograde combined with the Lunar Eclipse. These insights can lead to growth, new plans, and better choices going forward.
The Mercury retrograde is going to end conjunct (aligned with) the North Node, so this is fantastic for pushing us to realize our potential. The North Node is a part of the Lunar Nodes, and represents where we can find our ultimate happiness and purpose.
Mercury can highlight this as the retrograde comes to a close on March 20, and we can focus on making choices that will align with our highest path in life. This can be great for coming out of the retrograde strong.
The Virgo Lunar Eclipse helps us clear the way to do that. Take care of the little things, get some of the small chores out of the way that have piled up, and work on creating a solid schedule to hit the ground running.
The Virgo Lunar Eclipse is also a prime opportunity to work on better stress management. Virgo is the sign of stress, and managing this well can help with these huge changes, and keep us on track.
What you can do to help you with stress management:
- Plan for breaks, especially after anything that requires intense focus or is very taxing physically
- Take care of routine maintenance of all things (including your body, your mind, your home, your care, etc.)
- Make time for something that you enjoy without thinking about any work or responsibilities
- Find a healthy outlet for frustration instead of bottling it up (start jogging, take up kickboxing, even scream into a pillow every morning, ha!)
