Pentacles

The suit of pentacles is one of the four suits of the Minor Arcana of the Tarot cards. Sometimes they are called discs or coins. Within this suit, there are the numbers 1 (ace) through 10, all labeled in roman numerals, and the court cards – king, queen, knight, and page cards.

The four suits are:

  1. Pentacles

  2. Cups

  3. Swords

  4. Wands

Pentacles represent Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, meaning that this symbol represents the Earth element. Additionally, if you were to use regular playing cards for divination, pentacles are represented by diamonds.

In a card reading, this suit can indicate your path to wealth and success. It can indicate where you’re likely to do well and where things might be more challenging. Generally, this card deals with the outside world, acting like a mirror that lets you have a realistic view of the outer world.

This suit is the most tangible, rarely referring to a concept and more often to physical things. This is why pentacles are often associated with money, material gain, careers, possessions, and traditions. These themes also tie to our ego, self-esteem, and self-image, often warning us of things that will lead us to greed, loss, or failure in our lives.

So while the advice may be spiritual or connected through the senses, remember to look for what is real and in front of you when lots of pentacles appear in your reading.
