We’ve got 9 days of Mercury retrograde lighting up Fire sign Sagittarius, and we won’t deal with Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius again for 5 more years (until December 2030).
It’s a brief transit this time, but we might feel EXTRA retrograde-y thanks to the other astrology that’s happening!

What is Mercury retrograde?
We call something retrograde in astrology when it appears to be moving backward through the zodiac, and since normal motion is forward, whatever the energy of that body is can get thrown off (often acting in reverse).
All planets except the Sun and Moon retrograde, and each has their own impact, but Mercury retrograde is most known thanks to its burst of complications! Mercury retrograde about 3 – 4 times every year, and this lasts for about 3 weeks at a time, so we experience Mercury retrograde most often and for the shortest length.
Mercury is a fast-moving planet, and absolutely loathes slowing down, which is what happens when it’s retrograde. Add in moving in the opposite direction, and Mercury is quite agitated when it’s retrograde – and takes it out on the rest of us!
With Mercury being one of the tech rulers (along with Uranus), it likes to take aim at technology. With Mercury ruling communication, we tend to have more misunderstandings than usual, and when combined with tech, this often means trouble for social media.
But Mercury retrograde can impact almost anything and everything thanks to Mercury being in such a foul mood when retrograde. It likes to be a little bit of Murphy’s law incarnated – if it can go wrong, it does go wrong!
In spite of that, there are some positives to Mercury retrograde, and the best thing to do is to take a second chance. Since retrogrades have us looking back, Mercury retrograde is usually an excellent time to pick something back up and give it another shot.
The re-’s in general are great for all retrogrades, but especially Mercury retrograde, so think about redoing, revising, rethinking, revisiting, restoring, reconnecting, and renovating.
For everyone, this is directed at the areas of life ruled by the zodiac sign the retrograde occurs in. On a personal level, you’ll usually find this is directed at the areas of life ruled by the house in your natal chart the retrograde occurs in, or any aspects it makes to your natal planets.

Impact of the 2025 Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius
With this Mercury retrograde starting in Sagittarius and impacting this sign for 9 days, we tend to want more space to do our own thing with Sagittarius. This sign doesn’t want to be fenced in, and enjoys roaming and wandering (no surprise that it rules long-distance travel).
If you’re feeling boxed in with anything in your life, you may feel an intense desire to get space. This can be a good thing if you’re smart about it, not impulsive, and make sure to consider your actions carefully.
If you can do that, it can be a great time to get yourself out of something that has had you trapped for too long. But if you’re not careful, you may push too hard, too far, and regret it later.
Sagittarius is a travel ruler, so travel in general might be impacted (say, unexpected delays and cancellations), though it can be a good time to travel to somewhere you’ve been to before and would like to go again (those re-’s).
Sagittarius is also a ruler of higher education, so there can be issues with schooling, particularly colleges and universities. You might have to deal with some problems on campus or with faculty, if you’re in school; while those of you who aren’t might consider going back to school and furthering your education.
Sagittarius rules our beliefs, so we tend to be more passionate about them with Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius. This can be good if they align with who we are now, and if we’re not trying to force it on others, otherwise we might be empty preachers no one takes seriously.
This can be used in a positive way to stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves. Sagittarius can be a great defender, so we can help defend others who need it.
On the other hand, some may question their beliefs during this period, and this can be a time to be more introspective and perhaps ask yourself some hard questions or let go of something that you’ve had an unhealthy connection to.
3 Major Events With the Sagittarius Mercury Retrograde
1. Riding With Mars in Sagittarius.
The planet of energy and drive, Mars, enters Sagittarius on November 4th, so 5 days before Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius begins. The Mercury retrograde starts conjunct (aligned with) Mars, and they officially conjunct on November 12th (and they’re conjunct until about November 14th).
Mars energizes and motivates, and amplifies the start of the Mercury retrograde. We’re way more active going into this retrograde, and we want to make things happen fast.
But remember what happens when we give in to impulse and aren’t smart? This only leads to things we regret later, so we have to keep this under control, otherwise there can be problems later (or even sooner).
This does help with those second chances that need you to take the initiative, take the lead, and maybe have some courage. There’s a boost for that now, so make the most of it.
2. Taurus Full Moon + Uranus Back in Taurus.
Mars isn’t the only one making things wild leading into this retrograde! On November 5th, we’ll have a Taurus Full Moon, and then 2 days later on November 7th, Uranus retrogrades back into Taurus.
Full Moons elevate emotional energy, so not only do we have lots of physical energy and motivation with Mars, but we also have lots of emotional energy with the Full Moon. Taurus Full Moons tend to be stubborn though, so we have to push through that and avoid getting stuck (remember Sagittarius wants space!).
Uranus coming back to Taurus can push for major change (ruled by Uranus), and they might be changes long in the making. Uranus has been in Taurus since 2018, but this is the last tango (Uranus leaves for good in April 2026!).
Thanks to the Full Moon in Taurus, this gives us strong emotional focus on these changes that we have to make over the next 5 ½ months. This can be front of mind as the Mercury retrograde is kicking off.
Remember how Mercury retrograde is a time for second chances? That might be what we’re most working on with this Full Moon and Uranus combo, and we get a second chance to finish a change and make things right.
3. Jupiter Retrograde Begins November 11.
On November 11th, just two days after the Mercury retrograde starts, Jupter also turns retrograde! Jupiter is the planet of expansion, so Jupiter retrograde slows this down, and we can feel we have less options for new pursuits and ventures.
With Jupiter retrograde starting just after Mercury, this means we’re likely feeling suuuuper retrograde – especially since Jupiter is the natural ruling planet of Sagittarius!
It might seem like things are going in the exact opposite direction all of a sudden (plus add on Uranus goes back to Taurus, and yeah, everything can reverse). If we’re flexible and roll with it, this can be a good thing, and we can see what we’ve missed (and again, focus on those second chances).
Jupiter retrograde does also amplify the impact of the Sagittarius energy of the Mercury retrograde, so do try to get space, revisit, learn, and defend.
The Jupiter retrograde may also impact the Full Moon since Jupiter is in Cancer (ruled by the Moon). Make sure to tend to emotional needs, and try to avoid being subjective.
